2010 NFL Draft: Day Two

ROUND 2

#33 St Louis: Roger Saffold (OT, Indiana)
The Rams have book end tackles now, so protecting Sam Bradford is clearly a priority. They have a good offensive line, a good running back and now a franchise quarterback.

#34 Minnesota: Chris Cook (CB, Virginia)
Clausen sees another destination drift away. There was a lot of talk of Cook going to Minnesota leading up to the draft.

#35 Tampa Bay: Brian Price (DT, UCLA)
The Buccs take a partner for Gerald McCoy. That's an expensive interior defensive line and a bad offense, but I like both their picks.

#36 Kansas City: Dexter McCluster (RB, Ole Miss)
I don't like this choice. Ole Miss wanted a Percy Harvin last year, but shut him down as a wide out after a number of poor performances. He excelled as a pure runner late in the year, but I think he's too small to do that in the NFL.

#37 Philadelphia: Nate Allen (S, USF)
The Eagles clearly preferred the combo of Brandon Graham & Nate Allen over Earl Thomas and Everson Griffen.

#38 Cleveland: T.J. Ward (S, Oregon)
Interesting choice and a bit of a surprise. I'm not surprised Colt McCoy didn't go here, or Clausen for that matter. This is good value for Clausen now, but McCoy isn't worth a pick in round two.

#39 Tampa Bay: Arrelious Benn (WR, Illinois)
The Buccs spend a 5th rounder to move up a few spots. They absolutely had to find a weapon for Josh Freeman, they get a big target.

#40 Miami: Koa Misi (OLB, Utah)
Parcells pick #2, very steady scheme fit. The big names keep dropping. This pick previously belonged to Seattle.

#41 Buffalo: Torrell Troup (DT, UCF)
This guy is a nose tackle and the Bills are switching to a 3-4 scheme. Clausen keeps falling, he's running out of options. I never thought he was a Chan Gailey guy.

#42 New England: Rob Gronkowski (TE, Arizona)
The Pats move up to take Gronkowski who fills a need for New England.

#43 Baltimore: Sergio Kindle (OLB, Texas)
Chaos reigns as nobody knows whether New England made the trade in time and a backlog occurs. Baltimore take Sergio Kindle who falls because of injury concerns.

#44 Oakland: Lamarr Houston (DT, Texas)
Two Longhorns go back-to-back. Got to say - very impressed with Oakland's draft so far. Great pick, a potential Seahawks target maybe?

#45 Denver: Zane Beadles (OG, Utah)
Does he play guard? Center? Bit of a surprise this one because Beadles would've possibly been around a bit later. They obviously like him a lot and not J.D. Walton.

#46 New York Giants: Linval Joseph (DT, East Carolina)
I like the value, but surprised it was the Giants who made the move. He's a potential nose tackle. There's still time for this to change, but I anticipated Cody falling out of round two. Will it happen?

#47 Arizona: Daryl Washington (OLB, TCU)
The Cardinals make a big move, paying a third rounder to New England to select Washington.

#48 Carolina: Jimmy Clausen (QB, Notre Dame)
The Panthers take a shot on the guy nobody wanted. This is great value and well worth the risk. If he fails here, the cost is minimal. Definitely worth a go.

#49 San Francisco: Taylor Mays (S, USC)
The run on 'big names' begins. Mays is a Singletary guy and that 49ers team gets another nasty hitter. If only they had a quarterback, they'd be some team.

#50 Kansas City: Javier Arenas (CB, Alabama)
Got to say, I'm not impressed with the way the Chiefs have drafted under Pioli. This is another head scratcher - I like Arenas, but this is very early for a limited corner prospect.

#51 Minnesota: Toby Gerhart (RB, Stanford)
The Vikings trade with the Texans to grab Toby Gerhart. That's a nice compliment to Adrian Peterson. Houston, needing a back, preferred to move down.

#52 Pittsburgh: Jason Worilds (OLB, Virginia Tech)
Scheme fit guy, nice edge rush who was in that late second/early third range.

#53 New England: Jermaine Cunningham (OLB, Florida)
The NFL Network has crashed, just as Seattle are preparing their pick at #60. The Pats take an edge rusher and they needed one.

#54 Cincinnati: Carlos Dunlap (DE, Florida)
The risk here is limited, the reward is high.

#55 Dallas: Sean Lee (LB, Penn State)
The Cowboys trade up from #59 to get Philly's pick and take Sean Lee.

#56 Green Bay: Michael Neal (DT, Purdue)
The Packers continue to build around their 3-4 defense. Seattle on the board soon - keep an eye on Geno Atkins and Mardy Gilyard.

#57 Baltimore: Terrance Cody (DT, Alabama)
Cody offers some depth up front for the Ravens. He needed to land on a team like this where his work load can be managed.

#58 Houston: Ben Tate (RB, Auburn)
The Texans trade back up to select Ben Tate. I'm a big fan of Tate, he could have an immediate impact as a rookie. This was an obvious fit.

#59 Cleveland: Montario Hardesty (RB, Tennessee)
Holmgren trades with Philly to get above Seattle and take Hardesty. Both Houston and Cleveland wanted to get above Seattle to take a running back. I like Hardesty, but his injury history worries me. I got this wrong though, I thought he'd go later.

#60 Seattle: Golden Tate (WR, Notre Dame)
I didn't like Tate in round one. Here - it's less of a gamble. He can be a playmaker and he's a fighter. They'll be creative with Tate and use him as a runner, slot guy, and receiver. The Seahawks needed a spark on offense. The value at #60 overall was immense, so we can put to bed any concerns about the Whitehurst trade.
Watch the Seahawks select Golden Tate in round two here

#61 New York Jets: Vladimir Ducasse (OT, UMass)
The Jets were expected to explore the possibility of adding a lineman.

#62 New England: Brandon Spikes (LB, Florida)
A football player. Forget the physical numbers, he'll just go out there and make tackles. I like this pick for New England.

#63 Indianapolis: Pat Angerer (LB, Iowa)
I thought this would be Charles Brown's home. Obviously there's something we don't know about that is dropping him. He's too good to still be here. Everson Griffen is a big shock too.

#64 New Orleans: Charles Brown (OT, USC)
I'm glad to see Brown off the board. They say a medical (neck) issue led to a fall. He found a good home.

ROUND 3 REVIEW
Carolina are the epitome of how deep this draft is. They don't own a first round pick, don't make any moves and still get Jimmy Clausen and Brandon LaFell. Cleveland have taken Colt McCoy - although in round three I still think it's a reach. I just don't see McCoy ever starting in the NFL. The Bears made their first selection, taking one of my favorite prospects - Florida safety Major Wright. USC's Damian Williams landed in Tennessee, which is a good fit for both parties. The Broncos also found good value in the continuation of their offensive rebuild, taking J.D. Walton. Everson Griffen remains on the board after an unprecedented slump.

  1. I think the lambs will trade their pick.

    ReplyDelete
  2. A lot of talk that Cook was high on Minnesota's list. Still no sign of Clausen finding a home.

    ReplyDelete
  3. i dont get it, Minnesota is a perfect fit for Jimmy.

    ReplyDelete
  4. NOOOO, Price is gone. Why the f would Tampa draft two 3 techs?

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  5. Dang one of the Dt's I wanted taken. But he never was expected to drop all the way down to us.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hey does anyone know what the 3 technique is compared to the 1 technique? Also what technique does Brandon Mebane play? Then would we need the other technique?

    ReplyDelete
  7. KC has to take Clausen, right? Charlie Weis?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wow, big surprise. You'd think that the teams in the top of the 2nd would be trading out of their picks, but apparently they didn't get "F-U money" sort of offers.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What is the hope at this point? Who are we pulling to fall to our pick?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Mebane has played both positions, but slimmed down to play the three last year. He looked more effective as a one technique.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Clearly, the reports KC were thinking about Clausen at #6 were false.

McCluster is a massive reach here for me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cluster. wow, clausen got owned.

    alex

    ReplyDelete
  13. That says volumes about Clausen. When his own college coach won't take him you've gotta wonder. Weis must be really happy with their current situation or he's had enough of Clausen.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree. I wonder if Holmgren will take Clausen or if the Buffalo Bills will take him. I would have thought Clausen would have been taken VERY early (top 3 of 2nd round).

    Is Mays next?

    ReplyDelete
  15. looks like Nate Allen is it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm having a hard time placing Clausen now. You have to believe one team will take a chance soon - lower cost, lower risk... point to prove.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow look at this list of names:

    Jimmy Clausen
    Charles Brown
    Bruce Campbell
    Everson Griffen
    Taylor Mays
    Carlos Dunlap
    Brandon Lafell
    Arrelius Benn
    Golden Tate
    Damian Williams
    Mardy Gilyard
    Geno Atkins
    Lamarr Houston
    Jon Asamoah
    JD Walton
    Chad Jones
    Reshad Jones

    ReplyDelete
  18. clausen or mccoy? or...someone else.

    alex

    ReplyDelete
  19. Should the hawks take Clausen if he is available at #60?

    ReplyDelete
  20. TJ Ward. Wow, Clausen got passed AGAIN. I see the next major stops as Oakland and the Bills. Then SF.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rob- when does Mays become an option? what pick does his value make it worth it? Do we have to wait from him to fall all the way to 60? or is somewhere in the 50's or late 40's good enough?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Donald Duck - they have to consider Clausen if he is - but he won't be. At that stage, you take the chance because the cost is minimal. But it depends who else is there, I expect a lot of the big names to jump off the board now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. if by some disaster where all my beloved DTs are gone (Houston and Atkins), the WRs are gone (Tate, Lavell are gone), and the worthy DEs are gone, then I would take Clausen.

Frankly, I think Clausen is worth it at #60. Lol

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  24. Charles - for me, Mays should be an option now for any team looking for a safety. Yes he has issues, but I have no issues with Seattle spending a second rounder on him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If by some miracle Atkins, Houston, Mays, and Clausen are at #60 (I doubt it), who should we take?

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  26. If it only costs a 5th rounder to move up three spots... helps Seattle if they want to make a move. Plenty of ammunition.

    ReplyDelete
  27. well, one of the few WRs that I like is off. I like Benn for his size and YAC.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  28. WAIT, WHO? They passed on Sergio Kindle at OLB?

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  29. so is it Clausen now for the bills?

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  30. For me, Clausen isn't a Chan Gailey pick.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow, a who is this DT (Mayock say he's a 3rd rounder)? I'm seeing all these people that I have no clue of.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kindle is rumored to have serious injury concerns, thats why

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, I'm very surprised the way this 2nd rd is shaping up.

Alex, Kindle's knees are shot. As in microfracture shot. That's why no one's taking him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I had Troup in round two. Just surprised he went before Linval Joseph.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ah, I see. No wonder Kindle is dropping.

I would have thought Raiders may have taken Campbell.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  36. If it keeps up like this, it's like we got Whitehurst for free.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Still a lot of value on the board, but still about 15-16 teams ahead. Lot of big names to go now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. wow, chaos is all over.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  39. Have *any* USC players been picked yet?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Steve in Spain--

Except for next year's third rounder, of course...

    ReplyDelete
  41. NOOO, looks like Houston is selected. NOOO.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  42. please let mays keep dropping...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm sad now...I really hope Geno Atkins is still there.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dang, Oakland takes Lamarr Houston! This has been a surprising quality draft for Al Davis.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Davis resists the temptation to draft Mays and Campbell. Very impressed with Oakland's picks so far, building a very good defense.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Seattle are still 15 picks away. A lot of big names still out there, but enough to make the #60 a steal?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Matthew Baldwin23 April 2010 at 16:11

Hoping for Carlos Dunlap or Brandon Ghee; maybe Ben Tate or Carlton Mitchell.

    ReplyDelete
  48. What on earth? Denver takes Zane Beadles? He's strictly a ZBS guy. How does this help; them transition to a man blocking scheme?!

    ReplyDelete
  49. And the QB talk has died down again.
I know Brown is a ZBS tackle, but I'm REALLY surprised that he is still here now.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  50. Man, looks like we're going to need to trade up to get a D-Lineman. But staying put looks like we'll get someone real good too.

    ReplyDelete
  51. What are the odds on Seattle being the first team to take a Trojan?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Who is going to take clausen?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Washington it is. If Clausen falls past Carolina, SF, and KC in the next three picks, I can see Clausen coming to the Hawks (as much as I dislike him, it's a worthy pick).

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mike Sando is saying Carolina and Clausen. Let's see.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  55. Is anyone else stunned at some of the names still on the board? Even if every one leaves now, it's still a big shock. Clausen's running out of options if Carolina don't bite.

    ReplyDelete
  56. My guess is that the 49ers take jimmy Clausen.

    Erik

    ReplyDelete
  57. Do we take Brown if he falls?

    ReplyDelete
  58. im guessing mays to 49ers... i want him but i feel like thats who theyll get

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tackle is not as much as a need compared to DL (DEs are there, but DT only has Atkins).

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  60. eek, not a fan of th 9ers getting Mays.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Griffen and Dunlap on the board still... make a move Pete.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Keep an eye on Geno Atkins and Mardy Gilyard.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm no longer in favor of moving up because the people worth moving up are mostly gone.

The deepest positions remaining seem to be WR (Tate, Lavell, Williams), DE (Dunlap, Griffin, Wrooten), and then maybe S (Chad is still on and Burnett). Tackle IMO only has Atkins left.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  64. the niners are looking scary

    ReplyDelete
  65. Looking ahead, I'm predicting a big back for the Texans in the 2nd round.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, I'm a bit surprised that the Texans traded. I guess my Texans think Gerhart and the other big backs have minimal difference.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ben Tate, Taylor Price, Damian Williams, Owusu-Ansah, Atkins, Dunlap.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Atkins or Dunlap would be good

    ReplyDelete
  69. What's wrong with Charles Brown? Quite a drop for him...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Golden Tate. Charles Brown. Bruce Campbell

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cunningham? Oh, it's the Patriots, must be a genius pick.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Kelly, they're saying Charles Brown has a bad back.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Dunlaps off.

Still got Damian Williams, Charles Brown, Geno Atkins, Everson Griffin, Lafell.

Those would all be good values.

    ReplyDelete
  74. picking up Charles Brown would solidify our bookends for the next ten years. I bet brown is the 3rd rated tackle on our board

    ReplyDelete
  75. If Griffin falls in Pete's lap he'll jump.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm actually getting a bit tempted with Charles Brown. As someone said, our line would be SOLID for years to come.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  77. my Texans are up next.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  78. so it's ben tate. I guess that's not bad.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  79. NO to Colt McCoy Kiper, you putz!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. DAMN! I wanted B Tate! Griffin for sure now.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Schnider might go after the Y.A.C. guy. Golden Tate. I would like to see Griffin too.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Carroll is on the phone so is Schnider. Maybe a trade?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Plenty of good value. Who would have thought Brown is still here? Griffin is here. Tate and Lavell are here. If DT, Atkins is here.

    So there plenty of value.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  84. They are happy about something in the war room!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Charles Brown, por favor

    ReplyDelete
  86. soooo tempted to draft Charles Brown. Unless his back is really jacked up. Talk about massive value.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm alright with Golden Tate

    ReplyDelete
  88. Golden Tate! Playmaker!

    Pumped and Jacked!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Well... he was a RB once. I see reverses in out future. I can live with this pick.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah baby!! G. Tate, welcome to the Emerald City!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. That is a terrible pick IMO. Tate is not what we needed.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What... a playmaker on offense isn't one of things we needed?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Really not liking the Golden Tate pick. I just don't see it. His game speed is nowhere near his combine times. Really disappointed with this one especially with Lafell, Williams, Griffen, etc on the board.

    ReplyDelete
  94. we needed a number 1 reciever, not another slot/2 guy. Brandon Ghee or Geno Atkins would have been a much better pick.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tate will never become a play maker in the NFL. His play speed is not very good and he padded stats against some really piss poor defenses.

Really poor pick in my opinion unless they move him to RB.

    ReplyDelete
  96. He is one of the BPA (Griffin and Brown aside). I'm slightly shocked with the pick because he isn't the tall type of receiver, but I saw him last year and he IS GOOD. He is a playmaker and he adjusts to Clausen VERY WELL. I thought Tate was a VERY late to early 2nd rounder (but Brown and Tate are both late 1st rounders).

I'm not against the pick because I've seen him play very well. He is EXTREMELY athletic. He fulfills Carroll's desire of a WR who can score TDs. And if Carroll passed on Griffen (DL is a need according to Carroll), then I'm sure there is something going on.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  97. puzzling pick. I understand the desire to get a play maker, but there was much better value on the board. DE is such a spot of need for this team. hmmmm.

I don't hate it, but i'm not thrilled.

    cysco

    ReplyDelete
  98. That is a terrible pick, ugh

    ReplyDelete
  99. What a waste. I guess we're OK with letting the Dline get manhandled next year.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I like the Tate pick. If the Hawks wanted a playmaker out of this draft, the 2nd round was the place to do it. I'm still hoping we trade into the early 3rd to pick up one of Brown, Campbell or Griffen

    ReplyDelete
  101. Golden Tate gets the ball in the end zone...that's exactly what the Seahawks need. He will return kicks, too. A number of the mocks earlier today had him going in the top 5 picks of round two. Tate may very well have been the Seahawks pick if they still had #40, so the Whitehurst trade had no negative impact after all! Go Golden Go!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I have more faith in Charlie Whitehurst becoming Tom Brady than I do Golden Tate becoming a top 40 WR in the NFL.

Small, slow game speed, body catcher...not a very good combination to becoming a "playmaker" at the NFL level.

I don't care about how fast he is in shorts and how many yards he racks up against bad defenses, I just don't see the need for yet another undersized WR when Damian Williams and Brandon Lafell are on the board. Not to mention having Everson Griffen staring us in the face.

Really not liking this pick at all.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Michigan, Michigan St, Purdue, USC, Boston College, Pittsburgh... it's not like he was playing the WAC Anonymous. Not sure why you think he only racked up stats against bad defenses.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I will say that it says something about Brown (I'm thinking there is possibly an injury), Griffin, and Williams who are ALL USC GUYS didn't get picked.

I'm holding an outside hope that Geno Atkins reach to the 4th round.

    Alex

    ReplyDelete
  105. Michigan D - 82nd
    UW D - 79th
    Stanford D - 90th
    Nevada D - 96th
    Michigan St D - 73rd
    Purdue D - 69th
    Western Michigan D - 101st
    USC D - 40th

Just a few defenses I could find. I'm really not trying to be Mr. Pessimist, but if you watch him play, his game speed is significantly slower than his 40 time in a spandex suit with track shoes on. I just don't know why you pick Golden Tate when you have Branch and Butler on the team and you have massive holes elsewhere.

We should have addressed much more vital positions like DE, DT, perhaps CB.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Love the pick, his flash will do the same thing for this offense that Spiller would have. You have to have at least one guy that the defense is threatened by to keep them honest.

Tate should keep defenses from stacking the box as much as usual(helping the running game) and it should help Housh and Carlson on the other side.
Spiller would have helped in an inverse fashion as he's a RB but the result is the same: keep the defense honest.

Even with Alex Gibbs, Okung, Ben Hamilton and anyone else they draft on the O line it's going to take sometime to get that squad turned around. Adding a playmaker like Tate can take the pressure off a bit as that group gels.

The 2010 Hawks wont have the talent of the 2009 Vike's but I feel Golden Tate has the best opportunity to have a Percy Harvin type of impact this season....at least this years Eddie Royal.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Carroll must not have liked Griffin at DE. CB's value is not there. There is a HUGE dropoff after the top 3 or 4 CBs. I thought of Atkins, but it would have potentially been overdrafting though I wouldn't have minded it. At least you get your value with that pick. FWIW, at the time, Tate was the best player available on SI's board.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Sweet! Golden Tate gets to continue facing off against Taylor Mays!

    ReplyDelete
  109. So if this is the Seahawks done until tomorrow - thoughts on Rounds 1&2 overall?

    ReplyDelete
  110. I love the pick. People keep talking about game speed but Carroll saw his game speed up close and personal so I trust he has a better handle on it then we do. He also knows Damian Williams and would of selected him if he thought he was better. Tate has a chance to be Steve Smith light and we desperately needed a playmaker and got one in Tate. I've watched him play and he has a chance to be a difference maker at the next level. Incredible value for Carroll and staff. I would of been happy taking Tate at #40 pre Whitehurst trade.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Great first round by the Hawks. I'm warming up to Okung because he sounds like an insane work ethic guy. Earl Thomas is going to be special.

Not thrilled about Tate. Body catcher, small, slow game speed. I would have rather taken a chance on a guy who has the ability to become a #1 type WR. I'm going to be shocked if Tate ever becomes a decent #2.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Rob-I don't think they could of done a better job than they did. They addressed 3 major needs and got 3 guys who will start immediately or in Tate's case play a ton. He could have a Royal/Harvin type impact for this offense. I think Berry being taken at 5 was perfect for Seattle because they were forced to go OT and then got a safety who might actually be better than Berry who they would of taken at 6. I had my doubts about Carroll going into the draft but would grade this draft as an "A" so far. They went a long ways in turning this thing around. I love the draft so far!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Bates turned Royal into a star and I think Tate could have a similar impact playing the exact same role that Royal did. Shocked people don't like this pick......

    ReplyDelete
  114. I love it. We need a makeover on offense more than anything and a spark on special teams. At a minimum, Tate is a returner. He's got an elusiveness, he consistently makes people miss and breaks tackles. I think he can be special. Are Geno Atkins or Mardy Gilyard surer bets? I don't think so. I can't believe Tate fell to #60.

Funny how everybody kept jumping ahead of Seattle to take RBs (San Diego at #12 and Houston and Cleveland at #58 and 59).

    ReplyDelete
  115. 2/3 great picks, so i give it a B. Tate is going to be average IMO

    ReplyDelete
  116. I admit I don't know that much about Tate, but this pick is a steal. I expected Tate to go almost 30 picks sooner than this. Brown would have been my choice- since Locklear can never stay healthy and Brown is insane value, but this is still a great selection by Seattle.

Tate is not going to be a #1 in any system let alone Bates', but he could make an exceptionally dangerous #2. His yards after catch ability is 2nd only to Dez Bryant in this draft.

If you aren't jacked about this pick, go check out Walterfootball's WR rankings. Go see where he has Golden Tate.

    http://walterfootball.com/draft2010WR.php

Now again, I haven't formed my own opinion on Tate. I've only seen him 1 time, and that was when he demolished the Washington Huskies. I'll take a look at him after the draft, and I might even get game tape and scout him if I can. But right now, I like this pick a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I wonder if Tate and Hardesty were in Seattle's thoughts... we'll never know I guess? Seems strange two teams moved above Seattle. I liked both Tate and Hardesty, but only Tate in round two. Golden Tate offers par value for me. We'll see how he's worked into the offense.

    ReplyDelete
  118. So far I have no complaints with the draft. They didn't suckered in to the flashy pick and filled some huge holes. Okung will be solid and Thomas will be spectacular. Tate is great once he gets tha ball in his hands, but the key will be getting the seperation to get the QB to throw it to him. Might have perfered Damian Williams for that, but I think Tate has a higher ceiling.

Saturday will be fun to watch with 4 picks in the first 40 or so. I do think there is a possibility they could trade their 4th and 5/6th to get into the end of this 3rd. I would love to get Bruce Campbell late here and give Gibbs a couple years to try to develop him.

  119. Absolutely love the Hawks draft. Having Schneider is like having Jack Z with the M's. It's nice trusting that a great pick is about to be made instead of a scary one. I have a lot of faith in the Hawks right now.

We gave up a lot more than 20 spots in the second round to get the last backup QB that we traded for (which turned out great) and I wouldn't have been surprised (or disappointed) to see Tate taken 40th so it looks like a great move.

  120. Hey Rob, How do you feel about pick 60?I love this pick. Golden Tate is the real deal. He reminds me of Steve Smith. Looks like we got our Spliller type without the high costs. This takes care of our return game. He is a running back and reciever. Not concerned with his height of 5'10. With the additions of R and M Williams we now have a solid reciever core. Pete Carroll knows E. Griffen, Taylor Mays and D. Williams well, so if he passed on them you know they are not that good. Also, WR's like Lafell or Williams would have been a waste because there is a good chance the aquired Wiillams boys might work out as our big WR's. Looks like Branch will be on his way out soon. Now, if we can land Blount or a power RB in round 4, Id say great job to Carroll and company. For those of you who think that Golden Tate at pick 60 wasnt a good pick, I suggests you check out some youtube footage. Golden tate at 60 was the steal of the draft!!

  121. Loved the first round, reading that Thomas is going to spend his signing bonus on buying his parents a new house after they lost theirs to Hurricane Rita brought a smile to my face.

Not sure about Tate yet, WR looks like a wait and see situation at Seattle right now.

  122. So now you see the trade Brandon Marshall for Charlie Whitehurst and Golden Tate. It will take a couple of years but it could be OK. I'm very happy about the decisions PC made just a little ticked about how the board fell.

  123. Interesting interview as part of the NFL.com program. Lots of focus on Tate with some stuff on Carroll passing on his USC guys.

Worth looking out for if it pops up somewhere.

  124. There may be some great value picks in the 4th, Brandon Ghee may be there still or Everson Griffen

  125. Geno Atkins is still there. If he's still there in the 4th round, I would take him. I think he is really a hidden gem.

And LOL at Mayock's voice. It's painful to hear him talk.

  126. Lenny - I didn't like Tate in R1 or early R2. At this point? I think it's par value. For me, he isn't going to be Steve Smith, but more likely a poor-man's Percy Harvin. He's a guy who will struggle in press, he body catches, he isn't lightning quick and he just ran slants, screens and the odd deep ball at ND. He has a lot to develop. But you can let him play some slot, end arounds, screens, runs and kick returns. Get him the ball in space and let him run. That's when he's dangerous.

  127. Geno Atkins and Everson Griffen this late? Unbelievable.

  128. I agree. I'm all for addressing the DL with the 4th round pick. I'm in favor of Atkins with our 1st pick of the 4th round. Or we can maybe take a gamble at Griffin. Donovan Warren at CB is also starting to enter the scene with that second 4th rounder and first 5th rounder.

I also think it's time for Gibbs to start picking the OGs. Petrus is still there and I expect him off in the 4th round.
