It just goes to show how popular the NFL draft has become - there's been so much attention already to 2011. Mel Kiper has this week published his first 'big board' for next year's event. You have to be an ESPN insider to see the full analysis, but here's the list:
#1 Jake Locker (QB, Washington)
#2 Andrew Luck (QB, Stanford)
#3 Robert Quinn (DE, UNC)
#4 A.J. Green (WR, Georgia)
#5 Adrian Clayborn (DE, Iowa)
#6 Ryan Mallett (QB, Arkansas)
#7 Marcel Dareus (DT, Alabama)
#8 Anthony Costanzo (OT, Boston College)
#9 Cameron Heyward (DE, Ohio State)
#10 Patrick Peterson (CB, LSU)
#11 Mark Ingram (RB, Alabama)
#12 Aaron Williams (CB, Texas)
#13 Marvin Austin (DT, UNC)
#14 Jonathan Baldwin (WR, Pittsburgh)
#15 Ryan Williams (RB, Virginia Tech)
#16 Allen Bailey (DE, Miami)
#17 Julio Jones (WR, Alabama)
#18 Bruce Carter (LB, UNC)
#19 Michael Floyd (WR, Notre Dame)
#20 Akeem Ayers (LB, UCLA)
#21 Ras-I Dowling (CB, Virginia)
#22 Jurrell Casey (DT, USC)
#23 Prince Amukamara (CB, Nebraska)
#24 Gabe Carimi (OT, Wisconsin)
#25 Rahim Moore (S, UCLA)
My initial thoughts are that Andrew Luck is too high - he has a lot to prove in only his second year starting to warrant being this high on anyone's big board. Apart from that, it's hard to pick too many faults. A lot of the names here are worth watching next year. I would add Rodney Hudson (OG, Florida State) to any top-25 list because if he performs as expected, he could be a late first round pick.

lots of WR and CB
so who do you think we'll get with the 32nd pick next draft?
Rodney Hudson please...
I don't know why is Luck getting all this love from national pundits?
He had a running game to fall back and that is the only reason why he had any type of success at all. He seems incredibly average to me and is no where the talent level of Locker and yet is included in every single discussion about top QBs in the country.
Is it a down year from QBs next draft?
I don't think it's a down year. There's a lot of potential out there, we could have five first round QB's in 2011 or we could have two. It depends how certain guys develop and perform.
Luck burst onto the scene last year when one of his coaches compared him to Brett Favre. Ever since then, there's been a lot of bandwagon jumping. He's listed at about 230lbs and 6'4", which on paper is prototype, but I'm not convinced how accurate that is. All this has led to a major hype campaign that is largely unjust. Luck has so much to do in 2010 to put himself even in position to declare, let alone go in the top ten. I don't anticipate he'll be part of the 2011 draft. He absolutely cant have game where he completes 33% of his passes next year.
Our four biggest needs going into next year:
QB (if whitey stinks)
WR (housh overpaid/branch will be gone)
OG
DE
As much as I would love to get Locker, I think we will be a .500 team, be out of Locker range, so I hope whitey does good when he comes in for injured Hass. That way, we have our QB and draft best DE/WR/OG in 1st rd.

A lot has changed since this article came out.
Locker over Luck was wrong, but Luck is staying in school.
However, many of the names that were high on the board then are still high.
So Kiper did a good job.
It is hard to project a draft a year ahead.
But it is fun.
