Rob, how do you think Anthony Davis fits into a Gibbs scheme?
On paper at least he doesn't look like the most obvious fit. He's much bigger than the usual Gibbs lineman. He's not the most aggressive or the most agile when it comes to progressing to the next level. I also have some concern about his attitude and work ethic. He had some issues with Rutgers at the start of camp last year, arriving heavily over weight. The Gibbs scheme requires a certain element of drive and willingness to pick up the different packages. It's not enough to get by on physical talent alone and I think sometimes last year Davis was able to dominate in pass protection because he is such a physical specimen. However - I am not in a position to meet Anthony Davis and interview him at the combine. I'm not able to work him out, see how he responds and find out his work habits. The Seahawks are in that position. If they've watched the tape and see a dominant prospect who can translate that to the NFL - they'll do their homework between now and April 22nd.So I would say he's not the most natural fit and would appear to suit the man blocking scheme better. However - that doesn't necessarily exclude him from Seattle's thoughts and they'll find out over the next few weeks if he can come in here and work in the ZBS.
That was pretty awkward. OL is pretty different from DL, and given the importance of those areas, I don't know why they didn't just do a OL piece and a DL piece.
Completely agree, Kip. I was dumbfounded when I first saw the clip; seemed lazy.Stick to the formula and compare the top 5 LTs and then in another segment, compare the top 5 DEs (then talk top 5 DTs).
I liked McShay's shout out to Jared Veldheer - I'm anxious to see how he does at the combine.
Rob; I have heard conflicting comment's on Veldheer, in the Texas vs the Nation game. One annalist said he didn't play well at all. McShay is way over-rated in my opinion.
Reports I've read and heard said Veldheer performed well. McShay has pointed that out and so has Chad Reuter. However, I have great scepticism about his stock. This is a guy from Hillsdale who's been off the radar so far. He's 6'8" and I really do worry about his ability to maintain leverage at that height. I need to see more, but Hillsdale tape is hard to come by.
