Best to declare - Snead benched

Jahvid Best says he will declare for the 2010 NFL Draft. The California running back was expected to turn pro this year, especially after suffering a season ending concussion on November 7th. It was Best's second serious concussion in his college career - something that will concern scouts and GM's. He's not the biggest guy at a generously listed 5'10", 195lbs and whether he's durable enough to sustain regular punishment in the NFL will have to be considered. On the other hand - only C.J. Spiller can match Best for explosiveness in this draft class. He's a threat to score every time he has the ball with great speed and athleticism. He ended 2009 with 867 yards and 12 rushing scores.

Elsewhere, I'm currently watching the Cotton Bowl between Ole Miss and Oklahoma State. Jevan Snead has been benched after three interceptions in the first half. He did receive a big hit in the second quarter and left the game for two series, but returned before half-time to throw another pick. There's no doubt in my mind it's Snead's awful performance and not the hit that's keeping him on the sidelines. A hot tip to go first overall this year, Snead has endured a disastrous season. Despite this, he's maintained he'll consider declaring for April's draft. I can't decide which would be better - get out of a situation that is clearly destroying his confidence and career in the process or stay and try to leave on a better note. It's hard to justify declaring after getting benched in your final game, but will he even start next year at this rate?

Glad Best is coming out, I'm fine with either him or Spiller. Snead didn't look to good. tho

The concussions worry me slightly, the two he's had were pretty severe and considering the impact taken at running back in the NFL - that is something that could harm Best's stock. He is explosive though - I think at this stage he was to get late first-early second round consideration. Seattle need some playmakers, so I'm sure Best will be considered.

Snead was awful. I think he'll declare, because he needs to get out of that situation at Ole Miss. He has the tools, but he's just too reckless and his accuracy has been all over the place. Ryan Mallett is a much better proposition right now - I'll have some stuff on his Liberty Bowl performance on the blog tomorrow.

Why does it seem like I'm the only guy excited by Toby Gerhart. I think he will still be there in the second and he would be a great big pounder to add in.

Gerhart puts in a shift every week, he's a hard runner. However, he lacks any kind of cutback ability, he doesn't have a burst, he's non existent in the passing game. I think this will force him into rounds 3-4 - although the production this year could tempt someone in the late second (maybe). I still think he's set for a LeRon McClain type career as a highest ceiling - someone who plays full back predominantly but can be used as a committee runner and be useful.

If we invested in the line and put Gerhart and Forsett behind it and we would have a successfull running attack. With the recievers that we have the exact QB is not as important to make you good, not great, but good.

It's great to see a blog of this quality. I learned a lot of new things and I'm looking forward to see more like this. Thank you.
