Today was the Georgia pro-day, with representatives from all 32 NFL teams present to keep a watchful eye on Matt Stafford, Knowshon Moreno et al. Reports have even suggested Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell was present at the event in person, an indication that Seattle are seriously considering taking a quarter back fourth overall. The feedback has been good for Stafford, who threw 50 passes in the workout.
"I just got off the phone with a scout from a team selecting in the first half of the draft who indicated that Stafford was "pretty much on throughout the entire workout" and "handled the pressure well." Stafford threw for approximately 10-15 minutes, completing a variety of throws. His arm strength was obvious to all those attending the workout, but Stafford impressed scouts most with his accuracy, touch and better mobility than he's often given credit for."
Rob Rang, CBS Sportsline
Although Rang's report was favourable, he also said that the scout he spoke to thought Detroit would take either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe with the first overall pick. Such a scenario would almost guarantee Stafford falls to the fourth overall pick and then the Seahawks have a big decision to make.
It wasn't such good news for another highly rated Bulldog. Running back Knowshon Moreno lost weight to run for scouts, (217 lbs at the combine, 210 lbs today). Rang reports that he clocked 40 yard dash times of 4.60 and 4.63, only marginally improving his average times at the combine (4.62 & 4.68). It's always been known Moreno didn't have elite breakaway speed, but a good show for teams today could have propelled him up the draft boards.
