Seattle draft position on a knife edge

It's half time in Arizona with the Seahawks currently tied at 14-14 with the Cardinals. Due to results earlier the situation is simple for Seattle. If they win today they will pick 6th overall. If they lose, they jump above the Bengals to select 4th overall. It couldn't be tighter.

Hey Rob, correct me if I'm wrong, but won't Cleveland take 4th because of the strength of schedule tiebreaker?

I think we take the 4th spot. Coming into today, we were above both Oakland and Cleveland based on this years strength of schedule. Today's results shouldn't change that. The Browns play their three divisional opponents twice in 2008 obviously, and all won today. I haven't got confirmed facts on this yet but will have it on the blog asap, but I'm pretty certain the Seahawks have the tie breaker and will in fact select 4th overall in 2009.

I wanted the Hawks to win this one today for Holmgren but I can't complain about having the 4th pick in the draft (except for the contract that pick will get).

Let the mock drafts begin!

Most fans are used to strength of schedule being used to determine who wins a championship or playoff berth. In those cases, it is indeed a matter of who played the stronger opponents.

But when it comes to the draft, strength of schedule works "upside down". The team that played the WEAKER schedule wins the tiebreaker.

That is correct Mr. Fish. In this case, Cleveland's strength of schedule is tougher, meaning the Seahawks will pick ahead of them.
