Lombardi shares some interesting thoughts

By Rob Staton
Michael Lombardi had some interesting things to say in his latest column for the National Football Post. He claims Kansas City are keen to move down the board, potentially as low as the 15th overall pick. The reason I find this interesting is because for months I've been mocking the Chiefs to take Rolando McClain (LB, Alabama). The 5th overall pick is a bit high for McClain, but then you could argue the 3rd overall pick was high for Tyson Jackson last year. With moves to bolster their offenive line this off season already in the bag, I think the Chiefs will target another piece to their 3-4 defense. Inside linebacker is their biggest need and unlike some I'm a big fan of McClain. It will not surprise me if KC move down a bit and end up drafting the Crimson Tide's former defensive leader. It wouldn't surprise me either if, having failed to move down, they just take him 5th overall anyway.

But more relevant to Seattle is Lombardi's suggestion that Charles Brown's stock is building steam and he could be a potential top 15 pick. If the Seahawks, as I expect, target Eric Berry (availability considered) with the sixth overall pick - it still leaves a big hole at left tackle. Should the new regime in Seattle fail to trade the #14 pick (or not get a deal they are looking for), then Brown is very much an option for the Seahawks. For starters, he's a perfect scheme fit. He's also well known to Pete Carroll as a SoCal product. He's also greatly under rated in my opinion and on par with the rest of the offensive lineman available in round one.

With an increasing possibility that Trent Williams, Russell Okung, Anthony Davis and Bryan Bulaga could be off the board by #14, the Seahawks probably won't have any qualms about drafting Brown to fill a big need.

If KC does drop down the board with a team, I gotta feel that its going to be to nab Eric Berry. About 4 teams would salivate at getting ahead of Seattle so they can assure a Berry pick

I'd be shocked if KC was able to trade down from 5.

I'm warming up to Berry at 6 and Brown at 14. Really wish we could drop from 14 to the 20s and still get our guy Brown, but I'd pull the trigger at 14 regardless.

Sleepless----I wouldn't mind trading aaron curry to the chiefs for their 5th overall pick and a 4th round. That way pete carroll gets a kid that he really likes and our linebacker core would still e pretty decent

I too would be shocked if KC are able to move down for anything other than a token gesture. All considered, they'd probably just be best served taking the guy they want the most at #5.

Annonymous - the Chiefs passed on Curry only a year ago. They're not going to be interested in trading for him 12 months on.

Thanks for the link to this article. I found the stuff about Bert Bell fascinating. Obviously a remedy is harder to find in the multi-league/division European soccer, but there appear to be striking similarities between the pre-draft NFL and the state of all of the major European soccer leagues today. These tend to be made up of a small handful of 'haves' and varying degrees of 'have-nots'. The parity between NFL teams and lack of a perennial powerhouse is one aspect that attracts me to American sports.

Berry at #6,trade down at #14,Brown or Saffold. Teo-Neishem is moving up. I think the Hawk's have their eye on him. I thought we could get him in the #4th. Not now, though. I think he is now a third rounder, possibly a late #2nd. (Tapp)?
We sure could use that #3 rounder...

I think the Lions will be looking hard at possibly trading out of their two spot or selecting a OT instead of one of the top two DTs. If, by chance, The Lions select a LT at #2. One of those DT will than fall to KC. They could easily trade out of the 5 spot with someone.

Is it Thursday yet?
