Crabtree confirms decision to declare

As expected, Michael Crabtree today confirmed that he'll forgo his final two years at Texas Tech to enter the NFL draft. Even if this announcement has been dragged out until the last minute, there were no surprises. Crabtree won consecutive Biletnikoff's and was twice named an All-American. As a sure fire top ten pick this was an easy decision. Many mock drafts are tipping the talented receiver to find a home in Seattle.

Rob, If you had to pick between Crabtree and Bobbie Engram, which way would you go?

I have to confess that I'm a big fan of Crabtree's. I think he's a play maker who, if drafted, could ignite the Seahawks offense by not only providing Matt Hasselbeck a great weapon, but his presence will open up other receivers and the running game. I'd hesitate to have to make a choice between Engram and Crabtree because there is such an age gap and I think the team needs all the receivers it can get. Engram has been a great servant to this team and Hasselbeck's 'go to guy'. But he's recently turned 36 and had an injury plagued 2008. Engram is coming to the end of his career and Crabtree is beginning his. I'd like to see Engram end his career in Seattle, but this is a business and with John Carlson picking up the slack and Branch & Burleson both expected back, a position of weakness could become a position of strength.

I'd love to see Crabtree on the Seahawks roster, but the benefit of picking fourth overall is there are a cluster of prospects I would be delighted to see in a 'Hawks jersey next year. It'll be an exciting off season.
