Friday mocks

With the deadline passing for underclassmen to declare, expect more mock drafts to appear over the coming weeks. Yesterday we highlighted Rob Rang's first mock draft for CBS Sportsline where he had the Seahawks selecting Jason Smith (OT, Baylor). For more information on Smith, here's an article by John Werner at the Waco Tribune-Herald with some great insight into the 6'5" 300lbs linemen.

Walter Cherepinsky has a new mock draft published at Walterfootball.com. He still believe Seattle will select Michael Crabtree (WR, Texas Tech) and has recently declared Mark Sanchez going to Kansas City with the third overall pick.

Draft Ace goes in a different direction, choosing Michael Oher as the number one overall pick and suggesting the Seahawks will select Eugene Monroe (OT, Virginia). Michael Crabtree drops to the Oakland Raiders with the seventh pick.

Draft Tek and their computer software has calculated another mock draft. Using a series of data and an updated big board, the Seahawks are selecting (from rounds 1-4) Michael Crabtree, LeSean McCoy (RB, Pittsburgh), Eric Wood (C, Louisville) and Sherrod Martin (S, Troy).

Draft King also has Crabtree going to Seattle, suggesting that the former Red Raider could be the best draft-eligible sophomore to declare since Larry Fitzgerald in 2004.

Bronco Madness think the Seahawks have a big need at wide receiver and will 'pull the trigger' to take Michael Crabtree. It's always interesting to read what fan blogs from other franchises think of the 'Hawks.

Matt Bitonti at Draft Daddy thinks Seattle will go offensive tackle and take senior Michael Oher (OT, Ole Miss) with the fourth pick. Bitonti suggests Oher could be a premium level replacement for the ageing Walter Jones.

I'll be posting an update to my own mock draft later today. To see the current incarnation, click here.

Wow. McCoy in the 2nd round would be the biggest steal of the draft.

Totally agree, Kurt. I would love to see Draft Tek's mock come to fruition for the Hawks.

Now that Bradford is returning to school, I'm more than nervous Crabtree might be off the board when the Hawks pick at 4.

Rob - Do you really think Sanchez will impress enough at the combine for the Chiefs or even Detroit to take a serious look at him?

I think there's a chance twasuperstar. It's a weak QB class this year and teams at the top of round one really only have two options. Can Sanchez get into the top ten? I believe he can. There are question marks because he's started so few games for USC. But he has a decent arm, he's athletic, he has good size. His task is to prove between now and the draft that he belong to be mentioned at the top of this draft class.

Regarding the draft tek mock (LeSean McCoy in the second round), I think there's a chance one of the top backs is still around when Seattle will choose. I'm a big fan of Knowshon Moreno but I also see qualities in both Chris Wells and LeSean McCoy. You could get great value with a running back later on and the possibility of trading up to get a Moreno/Wells/McCoy from the top of the second is an interesting proposition.

Rob, Great info, but I am confused. In your last moch you have Jason Smith going 8th overall and suggest he needs to bulk up. On Scout.com they list him at 270. In the artical you have linked by John Werner they have him at 298. I would guess he is lower on the scouts site due to a 30 lbs give away at the OT position. Do you know for sure what he is tipping the scales at? Good artical by the way! He would make me happy if he turns out to be out number 4th overall.

Big Joe

Hi Big Joe, I've seen similar listings as you with his weight anywhere from 270-300. He was originally a tight end and has adapted to the position of LT. He's got bigger, but his frame looks like it could do with adding some further bulk. We won't know confirmed weights until the combine and listings on team websites and scout networks are often unreliable.

You will find out his true weight at the combine. It will be big news.
