Rob Rang talks draft

Eric Williams from the Tacoma News Tribune spoke with Rob Rang recently to get his thoughts on the draft now that the deadline for underclassmen to declare has passed. Amongst the topics discussed, who the Seahawks could take with the fourth overall pick and an explanation on why he had Seattle selecting Jason Smith (OT, Baylor) in his first mock draft.

Rob Rang has been very accurate predicting Seahawks picks in the past. Last year he accurately suggested Lawrence Jackson would be the selection, and he correctly touted Josh Wilson and Kelly Jennings before that. It's interesting that he believes Seattle will take an offensive tackle with their first round pick. Tim Ruskell recently suggested it was unlikely but Rang sees it as a safe pick, even going as far as saying it's a "Tim Ruskell type move".

I think it will be too hard for Ruskell to leave Crabtree on the board at #4 if he is available. I hope Ruskell wasn't blowing smoke during his presser, because I actually think he was right when he said OLine play is more about continuity and cohesiveness than anything. It would be a shame to miss out on a talent the likes of Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson. I also see Sanchez moving into the top 5 as the draft nears, it's been a long time since I've seen a QB throw as well on the run as he does. If I'm Detroit I actually go Sanchez over Stafford.

I think there's a real chance Sanchez could go first overall. New Lions coach Jim Schwartz all but admitted they will be taking a QB with the first pick, so it comes down to Stafford vs Sanchez. Both will be competing here on in to go first overall.
