Senior Bowl kicks off

Whilst one team from the NFC West is firmly focusing it's attentions on the Super Bowl, the Seattle Seahawks will be concentrating on this week's Senior Bowl. Work outs began today in preparation for Saturday's game between the senior college all stars.

Todd McShay from ESPN takes a look at the story lines surrounding some of the prospects working out this week. Included in his discussion, the importance of a good week for Baylor's Jason Smith - someone we've discussed a lot this week.

Amongst the interesting happenings so far, defensive tackle BJ Raji from Boston College measured in at 6'2" and 334 lbs. He was previously only listed at 6'1" and 323 lbs. Reports have said that Raji "had his way" with offensive linemen in Monday's practise. Last year Sedrick Ellis put in an eye catching display at the Senior Bowl to propel his stock, could the same happen to Raji?

Herman Johnson, arguably the highest ranked interior linemen alongside Duke Robinson, weighed in at 382 lbs and 6'7" in height. That's positively huge and it'll be interesting to see if this leads to a change in position in the pro's.

Colin Lindsay from GBND Report provides a full weigh in list here. For on site analysis of the Senior Bowl check out Matt McGuire's blog. He is reporting live from Mobile after making the long trek from his hometown in Bowling Green, Ky.

They are saying Raji will be a top ten pick now. Maybe the Hawks could trade down and get him, assuming someone wanted Crabtree or a QB really bad. Who knows?

I would be suprised if that happened Mike. Raji was red shirted by BC in 2007 because of academic issues. He was ejected from a game in 2006 and given a short suspension for throwing a punch at an opponent. His effort and motor has been called into question. He doesn't sound like the character guy Ruskell goes for and you can bet picking in the top 10, he's going to be extra careful on that score.

Looks like J. Smith's pulled out of the Senior Bowl. Only Oher will be playing of the elite OTs.
