Eye spy... who's watching the QB's?

Seahawks offensive coordinator Greg Knapp was right on the scene as the young quarter back prospects took turns to throw. Georgia's Matt Stafford isn't participating in this drill but Mark Sanchez is working out. Tim Ruskell recently said the team 'was in the zone' with regard to getting a long term replacement for Matt Hasselbeck.

Hey Rob. So, a lot of action at the combine. Watching today's action, I continue to be impressed with guys like Jason Smith, Eric Wood, Brian Robiske, Derrius Hayward-Bay, and Rashad Jennings. One surprise guy I would like the Hawks to take a look at maybe in the 4th or 5th round is Stephen McGee, QB Texas A&M. He was sort of phased out in A&M cause they switched to a more option, West Virginia type offense, which didn't fit him. He has good size at 6'3" 225, and has shown good footwork and accuracy at the combine. I think he could be one of the few sleeper QBs late we could pick up and develop for Hasselbeck replacement down the road.

Also, what are your thoughts on this whole Crabtree circus? I'm concerned this will all only give Ruskell another excuse to pass on him (even though I still think we should take him. He'll be healthy in plenty of time). At this point, the only guy I would be happy with other than Crabtree would be Jason Smith. However, as we've discussed before, it's hard to pick someone 4th with so much invested in Jones & Locklear. But again, picking this high you have to take the most talented guy for your team. I'm still hoping we get a shot at Mack or Wood in 2nd round, and someone like Ziggy Hood or Brandon Gibson (even if we get Crabtree, we need depth with all the question marks we have at WR). I guess we'll know more after Crabtree's pro day. Here's hoping he does well enough for Ruskell to get talked into taking him.

Hey Chris, thanks for the info on McGee. I'll keep an eye out for him.

I think circus is the perfect description for what's been happening. There's been a lot of hype, but Crabtree hasn't handled the situation well either. His latest press conference (which lasted about 25 seconds after a big send up) was bizarre to say the least.

I'm not sure the injury will have affected his stock too much with the Seahawks but this 'circus' may have. He supposedly met with the team last night presumably for an interview or a meal. He could right some of the wrongs by showing maturity in front of Jim Mora and Tim Ruskell. We'll see what happens in the long run, but this draft isn't packed full of greater alternatives.

Um, I might be mistaken, I didn't pay attention to A&M, but didn't they SWITCH from an option to a WCO? I know in previous years under Francionne (can't spell) they were more option-heavy, and this year they brought in Sherman who was promising to move to a WCO (part of the reason Martelleus Bennett left early last year).
